I love social media. Daily I use Facebook and Twitter,I post blogs to Posterous,I have a poorly updated wordpress account,a google wave account and something called "myspace" that I think was cool once upon a time. Social media is the pinacle of what is possible in instant communication and information and again, for the record,I'm a junkie. One problem,it's not real. What do I mean? Well,it's not personal and I don't think that communication is at it's purest form unless it's personal. We used to have to call someone to share news or extend an invite. Than we moved on to texting, not exactly one on one but still personal. Than came email and social media and the easiest way to out no effort into our relationships. There's a trend I see happening and it's kinda crazy. The Facebook post of important info that we can only hope the people we want to see it see. I never thought I would see a day when texting was too much work but it's slowly rearing it's head. I'm not trying to be rude or complain but if your too busy to text your not busy but lazy.
It all comes down to value. Friends and family may be the most annoying people at times but there also one of the most valuable commodities around. Everyone deserves to be celebrated by someone and not just tolerated. Social media is merely a picture of society and the truth is we seem to have less time when we all do less than people even 50 years ago did.
Text somebody today, you have more time than you think.
